A bespoke floor is the difference between choosing a product and commissioning a piece. Grounded Flooring can fit a full range of lay patterns — herringbone, parquet, chevron or straight plank — and add borders, inlays and trims to suit however you want the room to feel.

This is our Signature Style service: we design the floor around your room's proportions and light, then set it by hand. It's the work we're proudest to put our name to.

Herringbone & parquet flooring

Herringbone is where flooring becomes craft. Each block is set by hand at a precise angle, building a rhythm across the floor that catches the light and draws the eye through a room. In Bristol's period and Georgian homes it feels original to the house; in contemporary spaces it brings warmth and texture that plank floors can't match.

We lay single and double herringbone, traditional block parquet and basket-weave patterns, sizing the blocks and choosing the material to suit your room. Because the pattern is directional, a well-planned lay can make a room feel longer, wider or more anchored — and that planning happens before a single block goes down.

Chevron & straight plank

Chevron blocks are cut to a point so the ends meet in a continuous, elegant V — more involved to cut and lay, and a true designer floor. Straight plank, laid well and with a considered border, can be every bit as striking and is often the most cost-effective route to a refined finish.

Whatever the pattern, the fundamentals are the same: meticulous subfloor preparation, careful planning, and tight, consistent joints.

From a simple contrasting border to a full medallion, a feathered transition between materials, or bespoke trims and thresholds, this is where a floor becomes genuinely one of a kind. We can design it however you see fit — that's our expertise.

1. Design consultation

   We visit, measure and discuss the pattern, materials and detailing for your room and light.

2. Design & sign-off

   We plan and present the layout, block size, borders and finish for your approval.

3. Subfloor preparation

   The subfloor is levelled and moisture-controlled — essential for a pattern that stays true.

4. Hand-laying & finishing

   Every block, border and inlay is set by hand, then sanded and finished to your chosen sheen.
