Wood Flooring in Bristol

Engineered, solid and sustainable timber floors — supplied and fitted across Bristol and Bath by our own team.

Wood floors designed for your home

Nothing else feels quite like a real wood floor. Grounded Flooring supplies and fits engineered, solid and sustainable timber floors across Bristol and Bath — choosing the right material for each room rather than pushing a single product.

The right choice depends on your subfloor, your heating and how you live. That's a conversation, not a catalogue, and it's where we start every project.

Engineered wood

Engineered wood is a genuine hardwood surface bonded to a stable multi-layer core. You get the warmth, grain and feel of real timber with far better resistance to the movement that temperature and humidity cause.

It's our most-specified wood floor for modern Bristol homes, especially those with underfloor heating or large open-plan spaces where solid boards would be at risk of cupping or gapping. Quality engineered board can also be sanded and refreshed in years to come.

  • Excellent stability over underfloor heating
  • Wide boards and long lengths for a contemporary look
  • Pre-finished or site-finished options
  • Can be sanded and refreshed later in life

Solid wood

Milled from a single piece of timber, a solid floor can be sanded and refinished again and again, taking on a patina no manufactured surface can imitate. For period Bristol homes it's often the most sympathetic and value-adding choice.

Solid wood moves more with heat and humidity, so it isn't usually the right answer over underfloor heating — we'll tell you honestly when engineered is the better call.

  • Sand and refinish many times over its life
  • Unmatched depth, grain and character
  • Ideal for period and Victorian properties
  • Repairable board-by-board if ever damaged

Bamboo

For a wood-look floor with strong sustainability credentials, strand-woven bamboo is remarkably hard — often harder than oak — and grows far faster than hardwood timber. It suits contemporary interiors particularly well.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose engineered or solid wood?

It depends on the room. Engineered wood is more stable and is the right answer over underfloor heating or in open-plan spaces with big temperature swings. Solid wood is unbeatable for character and refinishing life in suitable rooms, particularly period properties. We advise honestly rather than pushing one option.

Is engineered wood real wood?

Yes — the top layer is solid hardwood bonded to a stable core, so it looks and wears like solid wood because the surface is solid wood.

Can wood flooring go over underfloor heating?

Engineered wood is well suited to underfloor heating. Solid wood generally isn't recommended, as it moves more with heat. We manage subfloor preparation and acclimatisation carefully either way.

Do you supply the wood as well as fit it?

We supply and fit as a complete service, sourcing the right timber for your project, and we're also happy to fit materials you've specified yourself.

How long does a wood floor last?

Well fitted and cared for, a quality wood floor lasts for decades — and both solid and thicker engineered boards can be sanded and refreshed rather than replaced.
